Welcome to our still new, barely–out–of–the–box Rotary club that is already operating as if we have been around forever. That’s the story here at Rotary Club of Rancho Cotati, the Rotary club of the future!
We are just starting our third year in this bastion of generosity and community–mindedness that so personifies the mission of Rotary International. To our great good fortune, our Founding President Warren Hernand and Second President Sandy Geary have handed over a club that is in tiptop shape.
Our connection with Rotary International and its 100-plus year history keeps us grounded, consistent and focused on the future. Our connections with Sonoma State University, local high schools and Youth Exchange help keep us vital and up-to-date with the issues and perspectives dear to our youth.
And oh, how our location keeps us looking to the future! We are fortunate indeed to conduct our meetings within the first “One Planet Community” in North America. This Sonoma Mountain Village site is the 2008 winner of the Governor’s Environmental and Economic Leadership Award (GEELA). We meet in the Village’s business cluster at 100 Valley Home Rd. in the Sally Tomatoes restaurant. Our chef is an innovative and fun Italian from New York who occasionally entertains and informs us with a lesson on a hot new recipe.
Here, you can see Sonoma State University students engaged in lively discussions and North Bay “Angels” making entrepreneurial presentations to business dreamers of every age. Our Rotary Ambassadorial college scholarships are part of one of the largest nonprofit scholarship programs in the country.
Care to help send books and balls to our adopted primary school in Kitwii, Kenya, or work with us on Rotary grants for water wells there? Have a desire to help distribute food at our local food bank, or plant daffodils to beautify our county? Wherever you’re drawn, whatever your dream, we probably have it going on.
Let the Rotary Club of Rancho Cotati help you make a difference in your own life and the lives of countless others. Come dream with us and know the joy and everyday fun of a caring and generous community.
I love this club!
Mary Graves,
President 2009-10
